Ground and cleanse yourself and your space, in whatever way feels right. You can go for a walk, smudge, use a cleansing spray, sprinkle salts, meditate, drum, chant, sing, dance, whatever works best for you and the space that you’re in. If you have a shrine or altar, or work in a place in nature, then perhaps you don’t need to cleanse the space. However, you should always ground yourself and prepare the space for working in some way, to get yourself in the right frame of mind and let the spirits know that you are ready to work, as well as raise power and energy to direct into your work.
If you work with circles, then you can cast a circle, however I can also suggest that if you are worried about attracting unwanted attention, you can drum, rattle, clap, sing or dance a circle of power that gives you strength to deal with anything that comes your way. Personally, I have never experienced unwanted presences in any of my workings, rituals or ceremonies.
Throughout working with herbs and crystals, you should connect with them in some way. I like to breathe on them, sometimes hold them in my hands and clap, which works well with oils, and focus my thoughts on them of what I want them to do. Many have a variety of properties and you will get better results from them if you respect them and tell them what you are looking for.
The Full Moon is a potent time to absorb all the magical energy of the moon. By the light of the full moon, mix together your dream herbs of jasmine, mugwort, yarrow, anise, bay and cinnamon, all of which hold immense energy to open your third eye, promote intuition, dreaming and manifestation. Using a deep purple cloth, sew a small square cushion of roughly 15 cm and fill it with your herbs, focusing your intent on each, and adding a moonstone before sewing it shut. Leave it out in the moonlight until you are ready to go to bed. You can also set aside some of the mixture to burn as an incense if you want, add a base of copal for an extra touch.
In the meantime, brew a moon tea of jasmine, mugwort and yarrow. These are powerful herbs, so be clear in your intention as you stir them, opening to the power of the moon and your own power, magic and dreaming. You can lay the moon tarot against your cup as you stir to add to its power.
Now, my favourite part. Mix jasmine oil into a base of coconut oil. It only takes a few drops, jasmine oil is strong. Rub it in all over your skin. Take your time with this, there is no rush. When you are covered top to toe, take your moon tea out, and with a moonstone (a palmstone is nice for this), sit in the light of the full moon, with as much skin showing as you can. Chant to the moon, allow her energy to fill you. You can then listen to the full moon meditation and allow yourself to absorb the mystery and magic of the full moon. Pour out some of the tea as a libation for our Grandmother Moon, and sip the rest, allowing the herbs to work their magic.
Take your dreaming pillow and place it under your pillow at night. Keep a pen and pad next to the bed, and write down anything as soon as you wake up.
